Methodology architecture

One lifecycle. The right method at the right moment.

Nucleic does not replace established innovation, design, engineering, delivery, quality, reliability, or AI-risk practices. We select the smallest justified combination, use biomimicry to add a distinct systems lens, and govern the whole journey through the Nucleic Delivery System.

No invented authority

The methods named here retain their original purpose and ownership. Referencing one does not imply certification or complete conformance. Biomimicry is omitted when it does not improve the decision.

The recurring pattern

Different language. Six common moves.

01

Understand reality

Observe people, work, context, data, constraints, and current performance.

02

Define the outcome

Turn broad concern into a bounded need, job, requirement, opportunity, or measurable problem.

03

Create alternatives

Develop more than one intervention before committing to a solution.

04

Test uncertainty

Use prototypes, experiments, analysis, verification, validation, or decision gates.

05

Implement with control

Assign authority, resources, acceptance criteria, release paths, and operating ownership.

06

Learn and adapt

Measure results and decide what to retain, change, scale, or stop.

Method families

Each discipline solves a different part of the problem.

01

Human need

Human-Centered Design · Double Diamond · JTBD/ODI · Service Design

Primary questionWhose need, job, experience, and desired outcome matter?

Biomimetic complementBiomimicry can expand the search for functional strategies only after the human need is understood.

02

System definition

Systems Thinking · Systems Engineering · TOGAF · Theory of Constraints

Primary questionWhat is connected, bounded, authoritative, constrained, and dependent?

Biomimetic complementBiomimicry adds patterns for signaling, specialization, feedback, modularity, resilience, and local adaptation.

03

Concept creation

Design Thinking · TRIZ · Design Sprint · Biomimicry Thinking

Primary questionWhat alternative concepts could address the defined challenge?

Biomimetic complementBiological strategies become one disciplined source of alternatives—not decorative inspiration.

04

Value validation

Lean Startup · Product Discovery · ODI · Stage-Gate

Primary questionWhich assumptions should be tested before further investment?

Biomimetic complementA living-system principle becomes a falsifiable enterprise hypothesis with a failure condition.

05

Delivery

Agile · Scrum · Kanban · DevOps · Continuous Delivery · systems V&V

Primary questionHow can tested increments be built and released safely?

Biomimetic complementBiomimetic principles shape modular boundaries, feedback, graceful failure, and reusable cores.

06

Operation

SRE · PDCA · DMAIC Control · incident learning

Primary questionHow will the live system remain useful, reliable, measurable, and improvable?

Biomimetic complementFeedback becomes a governed control loop; adaptation becomes authorized and reversible.

07

AI governance

NIST AI RMF · responsible AI evaluation · MLOps

Primary questionHow are AI purpose, risk, evaluation, monitoring, and retirement governed?

Biomimetic complementBiomimicry may inform bounded coordination, but never replaces explicit human accountability.

The distinct complement

Biomimicry changes the questions—not the evidence required.

Established methods usually begin from users, markets, processes, requirements, technology, or measured defects. The Biomimetic Systems Method also asks how living systems perform a comparable function under relevant conditions, abstracts the useful strategy, and translates it into enterprise mechanisms. The result still has to pass human desirability, business viability, technical feasibility, risk, verification, operational, and outcome tests.

When to use what

The problem chooses the method stack.

Unclear human needHCD + Double Diamond

Use biomimicry after the lived need and context are understood.

Unclear customer valueJTBD/ODI + Lean Startup

Use biomimicry to generate functional alternatives without defining the need through a product.

Known process misses targetDMAIC or PDCA

Use biomimicry only when root causes cross boundaries or require a new feedback/resilience mechanism.

New process or architectureDMADV + Service Design + Systems Engineering

Use biomimicry to translate suitable coordination strategies into the target design.

Complex transformationSystems Thinking + TOGAF + Systems Engineering

Use biomimicry to maintain coherence across specialized parts and controlled local adaptation.

High-uncertainty conceptDesign Sprint + Lean Startup

Use biomimicry to supply sourced hypotheses with explicit failure conditions.

Software implementationAgile/Scrum + DevOps/Continuous Delivery

Use biomimicry to shape modularity, feedback, recovery, and reuse—not to manage the backlog.

Live reliabilitySRE + PDCA + incident learning

Use biomimicry to design control loops, redundancy, recovery, and bounded adaptation.

AI-enabled decisionsNIST AI RMF + responsible AI evaluation

Use biomimicry only within explicit human authority, monitoring, intervention, and retirement boundaries.

When we omit biomimicry

The method must earn its place.

Iteration evidence contract

Every iteration ends with a human decision and reusable evidence.
